Earth Day Houston isn’t the only event in town.
A : Houston was part of the first celebration of Earth Day in 1970. Now, the region is host to dozens of public Earth Day events, including Earth Day Houston. Presented in partnership with the Citizens' Environmental Coalition (Houston) and sponsored by Green Mountain Energy Company, Discovery Green's citywide Earth Day celebration is designed to educate, inspire and encourage action. The event features displays, exhibits and booths on topics ranging from alternative energy to recycling methods, plus a foodie farmers market, kids activities and more.
Earth Day Houston will also include Earth Talks from local environmental heroes Mayor Sylvester Turner (invited), youth leaders and more. Guests can enjoy a live music and an upcycled fashion show. Earth Day Houston, presented by Green Mountain Energy and hosted by Discovery Green, advances the park's mission of providing free, environmentally conscious programming and eco-friendly operations.
A : Earth Day Houston is held at Discovery Green park, 1500 McKinney St, Houston, TX 77010.
A : Sunday, April 18, 2021, from noon to 5:00 pm.
A : Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, Earth Day Houston is free and open to the public.
A : Over a dozen vendors, ranging from prepared food vendors to farmers, will be part of the foodie farmers market organized by Urban Harvest.
A : Earth Day Houston is proud to enable Houstonians and all attendees the opportunity to experience a waste-free event. Perhaps this could spread to other events and even become the tipping point for a more balanced material waste stream in Houston. This challenge is bold. We will feature three types of waste receptacles: recycling bins, compost bins, and regular trash cans. The receptacles will be attended by Recycling Ambassadors to educate the attendees on the proper choice in real time. The Recycling Ambassadors will track the weight of recycling materials and compostable material being diverted from the landfill, and will track items destined for the landfill and the collective weight of the trash. These numbers will serve as a baseline for future events.
A : The Kinder Large Dog Run and the Harriet and Joe Foster Small Dog Run offer a place at the park for four-legged members of the family. The areas feature crushed gravel, fountains and seating. Please take note of these Park Rules at Discovery Green when visiting the dog runs:
